Mary-Justine Todd has an expansive CV. She is the founder and executive director of Shamsaha, the first and only domestic and sexual violence crisis response program in the Middle East. She is the winner of EY’s 2018 Middle East Winning Women Award for women entrepreneurs. She is Afkarech’s 2018 Woman of the Year and the 2019 International Gold Prize Stevie Award winner for women in non-profit business. She is the winner of Ingrid Vanderveldt’s Empowering A Billion Women 2020 – Most Innovative App Award, as the creator of the Shamsaha mobile app, to scale the humanitarian services in Bahrain, making 24/7 Arabic and culturally sensitive crisis support services available to victims of gender-based violence for the first time ever throughout the Middle East. She is featured in The Female Quotient and Google Earth in their Global Women Voyager Program for women who are breaking boundaries. Shamsaha has been selected by EY to be a participant in the exclusive global program, Ripples, for social enterprises showing high-impact potential. M-J’s women’s empowerment work has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, The Huffington Post, Google Earth, The Telegraph, Emirates Woman and Trade Arabia, among many.
